BEHIND THE MUSIC

Simple Theory was formed over the past several years when Ed Mathews restarted his music career. Ed spent his youthful years as an accomplished drummer playing in a number of bands throughout high school and college. He put his music career on hold to raise a family but as his children grew into adulthood, Ed decided to start his music back up. He always wanted to play guitar and figured that 'now was the time'! He contacted his high school friend (and bandmate), John Burghauser, and asked if he would like to 'jam'. John agreed and they started learning some songs - some from the old days and a few current ones. Several other musicians played along but when Ed heard that another one of our high school friends was not playing he 'recruited' Bob Watson to play drums. Bob followed a similar (family) path as Ed and, recently, found himself 'bandless'. John & Ed were eager for him to join - so he did!

During that span of time, the name 'Simple Theory' was suggested... the meaning is not entirely clear but our 'simple theory' is that "music is fun... fun music is even more fun"... thus our name!

In early 2015 John suggested that his friend Jeff Vogtman, whom John has played with in church groups for the past number of years, was looking to play more. The band extended an invitation to Jeff and he accepted. Jeff also played in bands throughout most of his life and was able to fit right in with the rest of the group!

Simple Theory was formed out of a deep love for many types of music and we continue adding new songs to our repitoire as the months pass. We hope you might consider calling us or passing our name along to a person or venue looking for a band. We are just getting our name out there but, since we all have a long history of playing, we have seen things come together quite quickly.
